Dear Cirby Families,
As Fall arrives, it’s exciting to see students adjusted to classroom routines, school expectations, and academic demands. Homework, too, should already be part of their nightly routine, even when it’s just reading. At this time of year, students also begin to participate in goal setting. Goal setting helps children become aware of the requirement of meeting grade‐level standards. Grade‐level standards are, in turn, broken down into shorter‐ term goals called benchmarks. It’s very helpful for you to have a conversation with your child regarding their academic and social goals for the year. Some students have received Progress Reports, noting areas needing extra focus and improvement. You will be kept informed of your child’s progress through the use of Progress Reports, Report Cards, Parent‐Teacher Conferences (November 5th – 9th), SST’s (Student Success Team meetings), as well as, informal meetings, emails and phone calls. If you have questions about your child’s academic or behavioral progress, please schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher
Did you know that starting in Kindergarten, too many absences may cause children to fall behind in school? Missing 10%, or about 18 days of the school year in Kindergarten can lower achievement in 1st grade and, for some students, lower achievement all the way through 5th grade. Students can still fall behind if they keep missing just a day or two every few weeks. How much school has your child missed?
Our next Cirby Eagles PTC Movie Night will be Friday, October 5th – come join the fun, 6:00 at Hillcrest Church. We will also help celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 10th. If you cannot walk all the way to school that day, use our Drop and Walk locations at corners near school. We will have music, snacks and other surprises on campus when students arrive.
Mark your calendars early ‐ our Annual Fall Carnival, sponsored by our Cirby Eagles PTC, is scheduled for Oct. 26th at 4:00. This will be a fun community event. Please save the date. I hope to see you there!
At Cirby, it is our goal to keep you well-informed about all of the things happening here. We have a variety of communication tools to keep you up to date. We communicate via our school website, Facebook (RCSD Cirby), text messages, voicemails and emails, which includes our monthly newsletters – all to keep you and your family informed about what’s happening at Cirby.
RCSD Volunteer Policy
Regular classroom volunteers must be fingerprinted and provide TB test results prior to volunteering in class. You may review the complete policy by clicking here. Volunteers must be fingerprinted at their own expense. If you have previously been fingerprinted at any school in our district, you do not need to complete the process again.
Please listen to our voicemails and check your emails and read texts from us. This is our way of delivering important information about special events that you will not want to miss. Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook – RCSD Cirby.
Please take the time to give us your feedback. It is important to us.
I appreciate you being a partner in your child’s education!
